Sustainable Systems: Taylor_Megan_Natural Dye Experiment

Hello Everyone!

In this post, I simply wanted to upload a photo of my dyed wool and cotton muslin samples from a project in natural dyeing which our class just finished. I dyed my samples with purple carrots from Windhill Farms found at the Union Square Farmers’ Market. Here they are!

Description:

Top Left- Dyed, unwashed, oily wool, treated with mordant, and rinsed with water.

Bottom Left- Dyed, washed wool, treated with mordant, and rinsed with water.

Top Right- Dyed cotton, treated with mordant, and rinsed with water.

Middle Left: Dyed cotton, rinsed with water.

Bottom Left: Dyed cotton, not rinsed with water.

Hello, My name is Megan Taylor, I am a returning student here at Parsons; my major is Fashion Design with a peaking interest in environmentalism and animal welfare; I hope to transform the industry someday...slowly but surely. My wish is to combine luxury and aesthetic appeal with the consciousness of how and where it is made along with the idea of what to do with it after use. I have been following my need to create and share with the world art and fashion since the tender age of eleven years old.
