For my final project, I want to explore the link between the mind and the body. More specifically, I’m interested in how what we are on the inside (or what we think and feel on the inside) often manifests itself through our physical appearances. To explore this concept, I’m using a self-portrait done in mixed media.
To start off, I took different photographs, specifically from underneath with my head tilted, as it is an usual perspective and is a conscious choice, to avoid it from looking like I was taking a generic selfie. My original idea was to find which one looked best and work with that in photoshop, but I decided I liked all of them. I added all the photos on top of each other with transparency, but it looked very disconnected, so I scraped that idea.
Instead, I am going to take one “base” photo, and take triangles, circles, or other shapes from the remaining pictures to create a more abstract interpretation of the themes I intend to explore.
Once I finish editing my photographs, I’ll print it out and cover parts of it with coloured vinyl (I couldn’t find acetate) and draw over it in different styles, to show different “facets” or manifestations of myself.
These are two colour palettes I’m thinking of, and I prefer the purple and green one as it has more dimension than than the monochromatic one.
