FINAL PROJECT
Since I had so much fun doing our persona project, I decided to do a self-portrait of myself for my final project. I found the concept of expressing a character visually through 2D and 3D things very engaging and I would like to work more on being able to depict a person through their emotions in the artistic and visual aspect. I intend to use acrylic paint, as I have not had a chance to do any painting since I got to parsons. My aim is to create something that represents me visually. I plan to challenge myself not only through my painting techniques, but the meaning behind my piece. First I will sketch out my idea, then I will continue my process on a canvas board where I will be using acrylic paints, gel mediums and other undecided mediums. I will finish the piece with a coat of gloss to seal the painting. It will be a 2D painting I hope to create a successful piece that visually depicts me. I also want to work with the color theories once again and hoping to achieve the emotion I want to convey through the different tones of yellow and orange which represents amusement and a sense of happiness in my piece.
Materials used: 18×24 Canvas board, Pencil/Graphite, Acrylic paint, Acrylic medium.
First I mapped out what I wanted to do aesthetically. I am basing my portrait off of this picture:
Then I continued to outline the sketch directly on the canvas. I decided to do a yellow and orange background- representing a positive mood.
Color Theories:
My background will be an abstract background which will contrast nicely with the realistic attributes I will paint on myself in this piece.
Spent a lot of time perfecting features on my face- instead of a regular portrait, I wanted to show something that defines me greatly.
Initally, I added a little pink with a lot of white in my painting
Final outcome, I went with the colour theory scale (Amusement)
All in all, this project let me apply the colour theories and emotions I have learned in this course and I am very satisfied with the final result.
