For the final project, I want to create a video, or a series of videos, and potentially a series of photographs and/or objects to go along with it. I want to incorporate sound with it as well.
1. I’m very much interested in doing something that relates to / incorporates memory: For ex: home videos, photography
2. Memory with a collaboration of things from my childhood – popular videos, movies, songs, anything that I can relate to and possibly others. Objects also.
3. Memory how i remember it, how it actually was. Ex could be two photo albums side by side with different versions and images/or stories.
4. Different versions of memory video – split screen.
5. Also very interested in technology and the idea of computer glitches.
6. Continuing with Glitch – could make video of something and have it glitch in the video multiple times and change paths. Or simply just glitch, and make it surreal, or not in real time. Fantasy / dream / day dream.
7. Glitch with repetition – how can repetition change time?
8. Something that loops, and never ends. But feels like theres no stopping point.
9. Misinterpretation with language. Play with words/language.
10. Things going backwards?
11. Filming from a different perspective for ex: film a security camera screen.
Lots of interesting ideas to work with here.
Are you going to follow the Memory idea?
You seem to have two directions:
1. the idea of memory. How it is presented and perceived and manipulated
2. glitch either in relation to technology or language
I am curious if there’s any way to bring these ideas together?
As I mentioned in class, the idea of the Glitch has some resonance in terms of memory. the idea is that it is a FAULT in the record or transmission of something. Memory is a kind of record or archive. How does the glitch also represent memory.
I assume you have seen the Matrix. If I am not mistake, Memo discovers that something is wrong (that reality is not what it seems) because of a glitch. The film Memento is like one big memory glitch.
I mentioned that there’s a whole Glitch music genre.
It sort of started with the band Oval

There’s a book on the idea of sound and malfunction:

Another interesting example of “glitchiness” is the movie “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly”

So we need more information to understand what you plan to pursue.

ALSO Here’s the original instructions for the proposal
———————————————————————
The project begins with a statement of purpose
This is the what how and why of the proposal.
WHAT
What is the subject of your project? In other words, what is it about?
HOW
How does the project propose to explore time? How is time a critical part of it? How is it meant to be experienced — Who is the project for? How does the context for the piece help to give it meaning?
WHY
Why have you chosen this particular idea to pursue?
Details:
Write a three paragraph initial proposal covering the What, How and Why of your idea.
Posted this initial proposal to the blog with the following
