My object, cherry blossom is a significant plant for Japanese people. It is the national flower of Japan, and it had been in Japan for over thousand years. There is a tradition of having something like picnic and observe the cherry blossom when it is in bloom, called ‘Hanami'(cherry blossom festival). Japanese people consider when the cherry blossom bloom, it is the beginning of spring. Therefore it has impression of happiness. In Japan, the school year starts from April so cherry blossom was always there in the season of graduation and the new school year. It is something that we find value in and enjoy looking at it.

For me, I haven’t seen cherry blossom in Japan for almost eight years now. However there are different kind of cherry blossoms in other places outside of Japan as well. Whenever I see some flowers like cherry blossom, it reminds me of Japan and make me be proud of my nationality. This is because I am facing identity crisis since I lived in many different places since I was small. Cherry blossom is something that reminds me that I am Japanese.
