Olafur Elliason

Olafur Eliasson is a Danish-Icelandic artist known for sculptures and large-scale installation art employing elemental materials such as light, water, paper and air temperature to enhance the viewer’s experience. Eliasson’s diverse works – in sculpture, painting, photography, film, and installations – have been exhibited widely throughout the world.

One of his work I especially like is The Book of Your House. It is a thick paper book that is carved into the interior of a house. And as you turn the page, different views are presented and there is always a unique house for you. Not to mention the material, the idea itself is fascinating and intriguing. The thickness of a book can really be fully utilized to display its layers with light and shadow.

Stuart Davis

Stuart Davis (1892–1964) is one of the preeminent figures of American modernism. He painted cubism, pop, watercolor and collage. His idiosyncratic Cubist paintings of urban landscapes presaged the use of commercial art and advertising by pop artists of the 1960s.

I like the way he used everyday objects and words which bring energy to the whole painting. It looks almost like a collage because it is made of pieces, but it is actually oil painting.
