Starvation and Food waste
The problem I’ve chosen is starvation. People living in big cities don’t often realise that a lot of food are being wasted. People order excess food, not knowing that there are others out there starving. Some 795 million people in the world do not have enough food to lead a healthy active life, according to WFP’s statics. That is almost 10% of the world population. Despite the good life we live in, there are still a lot of people living under starvation, especially in Africa.
I think that it would be interesting if there was a restaurant that serves people just the right amount of food, while also allowing them to help those in need. The restaurant has to be aesthetically attractive, food served will also be decorative to increase appetite. Pricing of the food will, however, be more expensive than usual, and that is because part of it will be donated to help stop starvation.
When customers are seated, they will be requested to describe their appetite and the type of food they would want. The chef will then accommodate to what customers want to the best of their skills and what is available in store that day. This way the chances of food being wasted will be decreased as customers are most likely going to get the right amount of portion according to their descriptions.
Another interesting idea that can be added to the restaurant is that, customers are allowed to showcase their artwork in this restaurant, let it be photography, painting or calligraphy. They can leave their artworks and contact information in the restaurant so that other customers can look at them. Showcase fee will be collected according to the length of time the art piece is being placed, and donated to again, stop starvation.
Hopefully this business will allow people to experience a meal that is slightly different from what they were used to, as not only are they given food that are custom made for them, they also don’t know what kind of cookings will they be tasting that day. Furthermore, while paying for what they eat, they are also paying for people who are starving in this world. It is also a great place for people who enjoy making art, or simply enjoy looking at art, to meet up and socialise.
