A short write up of the game Fabulous Beast
Although I have only seen the gameplay for Fabulous Beast, its unique physical and digital gameplay style has already captured my interest. Fabulous Beasts, just like any other tower building games, requires you to stack up the blocks (in this case, the animals, elements, and platforms that allows events such as migration or hybrids) to form a tower. The blocks will need to be registered before it is placed on the base. After registration, players are allowed to put the block on top of the base, upon placing the block the corresponding animal, element or event will appear on the digital screen (In the case of the gameplay video, the iPad screen). Players will then take turns to place blocks on top one another, earning more fabulous points as the game progresses.
Points are gained each time a block is placed, although certain blocks can double the points, whilst some can deduct the points by making the animals you created ‘jealous.’ The tower you build doesn’t stay unchanged — it is a world that you created, showed on the iPad screen. Depending on what blocks you place, it will change the environment of the world, causing animals to have various behaviours that can affect your fabulous points. This makes the game incredibly fun as players can explore the many possible combinations of different animals and elements.
Overall, I think that Fabulous Beasts is a very interesting game, weather just by looking or hearing about it. The fact that there are many hybrid and migration combinations to explore has already made the game attractive to me, let alone being able to see the world you built on a screen — which brings us to one of the very unique aspect of Fabulous Beast, the integration of physical and digital games. Fabulous Beasts is like a book, and the players are the author — history of the animals and how they evolved are written down according to how the players want to proceed in the game.
I can’t wait to get myself a copy to play with friends and family!
