Rules to an unofficial Childhood
Below are the rules to a childhood game I used to play with my cousins. The game requires a host, at least two farmers, and a blind folded landlord. Making it a game of at least 4 players. Though it would be a lot more fun to have around 10 players.
- A space that allows players to walk for around 5 metres will be favourable to the game.
- Players are separated into 3 groups. The landlord, the farmers, and the host.
- One landlord will be chosen and he/she will be sent to the other end of the space (or asked to leave the room to prevent him/her from listening to the strategies, identities of the farmers etc.)
- A host will be chosen, and the rest of the players will be the farmers.
- The host will assign different roles to the farmers (strawberry farmer, watermelon farmer etc.)
- The landlord is then asked to blindfold his/her eyes and stay at the end of the room.
- The farmers will be positioned on the other end of the room. The host can stand anywhere.
- The host will start to assign farmers to cross the room one by one, by shouting their role name.
- The farmers has to cross the room trying to conceal their identities.
- All farmers must make their footsteps hearable.
- The landlord has to guess which roles the farmers has taken when all farmers has crossed the room. At this point he/she is allowed to not be blindfolded.
- The landlord wins if he/she guessed more than half of the farmers’ roles.
- The farmers win if they managed to conceal more than half of their identities.
I personally think this is a fun game to play with close friends/relatives as you understand them, and can hence deduct what kind of footsteps they’re likely to make and how they would try to manipulate it. But this is definitely not a bad game to play with newly met friends, too!
