Jacqueline de Ribes: The Art of Style

This ensemble from Emanuel Ungaro’s spring-summer 1995 collection creates a flowing sense of magnificent luxury through use of diaphanous material and shimmering, metallic prints and embellishments.  The feeling of splendor derives from fluid, draped royal blue fabric printed with long-stemmed silver leaves accented with pearls, which would swish, loose and free, as de Ribes would walk.  The outfit is composed of a long skirt and a draped top with slit batwing sleeves, both heavily lined with panels of pearls and crystals which match the look of the leaves and the glittering, flower-shaped teardrop earrings.  The ensemble’s gentle drapery calls back to the sloping branches of willow trees and to the leaves present on the print, and the mannequin’s dainty stance elaborates upon the refined nature of the top and skirt.
