Rec week 1 reading response

Despite from what we already talked in class about how fashion relates to gossips, there’re some thoughts I want to add on. Fashion indeed spreads really fast like gossips, but more importantly, gossips create a second identity for us, and it is the first layer for people to know about us, and that is as same as how fashion works, it builds up our outer images. For instance, I often go to Ratemyprofessors.com to check on my professors before I get registered, and from there I see gossips. That is exactly how fashion serves us, to construct the images that the outside world sees. Even though it is remarkable how fast and  simple fashion tells the story, but it is just the story that we carefully select. Gossips can be wrong. What we see on ones way of dressing up could differs from who he or she really is and Ratemyprofessors.com won’t tells you everything about a person. Fashion is just a persona that we choose to project on our body.

With that being said, there’s a paragraph which Heike Jenss says:”Fashion is intensely personal, in the same way that poetry is intensely personal. It is a medium through which personal stories can be told… and future foretold”.  Fashion is absolutely  intimate, but fashion is composed by parties of two, the buyers and the designers. Nowadays, with fashion has being industrialized so well, zillions and zillions wearings being produced and put to the markets every year, fashion becomes too approachable that it has less value of what it represents, fashion is just the cover of a book, it doesn’t necessarily tells you anything about a person.  Fashion today can be considered as either a design or product, when it is a design, it is enriched with thoughts and ideas, when it is a product, it is a gossip been announced.
