Dress Practice Interview – Reflection

My interview subject Vanya was my high school classmates so I already knew her person well before I interview her, and the theme of my interview was to understand how a person’s wearing can be structure differently with a person’s personality.

Vanya is a always outgoing, but she rarely wears short sleeve shirts, and never wears short pants or skirts, no matter how hot the weather is, which was really different than the way I dress, I normally pick comfort first in hot seasons. As I was interviewing her, I knew that it was the style that social media promotes and she loves it, she wants to be like that person in the screen, the kind of girl who looks shy and doesn’t open their self to people. Entwistle says:” Body is both an intimate and social object, intimate in that, it serves as a kind of a visual metaphor for identity. Social in that, it is structured by social forces and subject to social and moral pressures. ” As far as I can get out of Vanya, she is not restrain to any social boundaries, meaning that she does not receive the pressures, for example, girls need to wear dress or  you need to look happier to be sociable. I think today people’s wearings are far less structured by society than it use to be, and that leads to the outcome that people are gain more freedom in who then want to be, which is the ‘visual metaphor for identity’. In other words, the  less social pressure on wearing, the clearer and diverse image of persona we can show to the society.
