WRITTEN REFLECTION
Project title: Androgyny
1. What was the original proposal idea and how does it relate to your seminar research paper?
The original proposal idea is to express my opinion of future of sex, For my seminar research paper I wrote about Gucci, and the brand’s take on sustainability. For me Gucci is very androgyny, and for the aesthetic of this project, Alessandro Michele’s works at Gucci really inspires me.
2. What is the intended function of your design, and what is the intention of the transformation?
The function of my design to make a statement of liberation, it is a statement of how we should be more inclusive about gender and sex. The transformation of sex, and break the stereotypical standards for genders. The transformation is to break the gender role.
3. What materials were used? Where did they come from, and what was repurposed?
I use cotton, and elastic, I bought them from Mood Fabric, I repurposed the fabric that I bought in many ways. I manipulated the fabric, I folded the fabrics in many ways.
4. How did your project change over time?
I changed the design of the top. The original design was a tight shirt with pearls. However, I changed it into a pleated tube top to match my skirt, because when I was making my pleated skirt, I found different folding and sewing methods can create different pleat style.
5. What did you learn about fashion/design, sewing & construction, and about yourself during this process?
I learned how to do pleats, I thought it is very easy, but it is actually very difficult. I did a mens underwear, so I learned the construction of an underwear. During my process I feel like I love making statements and sending my voice out to the world, what I made is not fitted, and it does not have a literal function. I feel like this projects enlightened me and it is a very good beginning for me.
6. What would you do to improve the project?
I would like to work on my constructions more, I feel I can not make what I want to make.
