Prototype 4 Exhibition Design Reflection 4/8- 10 Nodes User Flow

I will be using a 2’ by 1’ space, with a 100cm tall custom made table top. Also utilizing the wall space for project explanation. Exhibition schematic can be found in midterm presentation deck. (See midterm post)

Through out the project development through this stage, the main challenge has been trying to integrating real life data into the interface design. The goal for this project is to build a educational tool that helps user to get a basic understanding of types of energy sources and their impact to our urban environment. I personally believes strongly in the idea where the public should get more exposure and understanding towards how government decisions are indirectly shifting our urban environment profile. Not only that it is bringing the negative impacts to the air we breath, based on different pollutants that were being emitted into the atmosphere. More importantly, these pollutants are linked with larger public health consequences that eventually became the hidden cost of urban energy profile.

It is crucial for more people to understand the chain effect of these information pieces. By the nature of the energy system itself is complex and multi-dimensional. For this reason, less people understand how the government decisions are making effect on the public health. The intention of the design is not aiming towards solution by any sort, but more so a piece of human information design piece that communicates complex system thinking framework across. This platform is created dfor the matter of information transparency and to increase data accessibility, where audiences have direct access to factual evidences of our environment, presented in a way where it is feasible for comprehension.

Thinking in Systems by Donella Meadows has address the topic around the complexity of environmental challenges. The analogies given in the book using simple bathtub obtaining its equilibrium state with same amount of water in flow and out flow explains the concept  of system thinking in real life example. There are parametric that exist in real life in the study of chemistry and physics such as the rate of water vaporization are being left out in this given example. For the purpose of presenting simp lies system and create feedback loop with the audiences .This method of human information interaction can be seen as a way of creating transparency between government decisions and public benefits. It is a platform of resilience that empowers the public through knowledge toward certain area, in this case with public and environmental health matter.
