Cultural self portrait

I used to have beautiful fantasies when I was young. I watched all kinds of anime and I played so many video games. The world they created was idealized, filled with kindness and love. Thus, I was so innocent and pure, trusted everyone, always believed in virtue. However, the world is not that perfect at all. Since I realized this, I got my first tattoo. The angel’s holding a wood heart, with her wing transferring to the devil’s wing. The line beneath her says: “Gotta be devil if born as angel.” I must have something tough, or even ruthless, so that I can be powerful enough to protect my innocence.

The first piece of wire work is the character in the anime <Mirumo de Pon!>. An elfin who can cast spell to help the protagonist. The anime shows friendship, love, insistence and so many virtue. It represents the first stage of my life.

The second piece is a simplified version of my tattoo. It’s a period of transition which lasted for a year.

The third work of heart represents the current situation. The golden heart which refers to purity and innocence is constrained by black wires. It’s both protected and suppressed.
