I am a product design student at New School. I am very interested in furniture and I have learned a lot of woodworking skills.
Comparing other classes, the seminar and studio class are more about practicing our ways of thinking and trying to find a way to inspire ourselves. The other sources such as drawing, time, and space classes are more about teaching and practicing drawing, video editing, and crafting skills. These skills helped me to find more things that I might be interested in and also very useful for studio class that I was able to make the project in different aspects. The studio class taught me how to think academically and the process of how to start a project. For me, making things that I am interested in is exciting and I could put all my efforts in.
The two highlights from my first year were very helpful. The first was the style of work I am trying to find. I have decided to make all the projects in a very neat way and looks simple but actually had a lot of work to make. The color I chose for my projects were the colors like brown so that it looks old and seems like a historical object. The other one was the project I made to conclude my first semester. Inside of the wrap of canvas, there was a book scale box filled with the research and the processes of all the works I did last semester.
In the future, I would like to develop my style of making projects furder and trying to improve my crafting skills in the future. I plan to take all the crafting tool orientations next semester so that I could be about to explore more in different materials.
