PUFY 1233
In this course we will consider how comics work and how can we make them work in new ways. Mixing seminar-style reading and study with studio work, students will examine the elements of comics, learn how they work, learn their history, and read examples of groundbreaking comics by diverse artists. Students will also put theory into practice, creating a group of short comics over the course of the semester that will utilize ideas from course readings as jumping-off points for formal and aesthetic explorations. Students will produce this work with an eye toward publication, and at the end of the course will produce a collaborative anthology of comics drawn over the course of the semester.
