This course explores the role of the artist and making photographs in the face of the global climate crisis. Through the study of photography, art, activism, and writing students will explore the relationship between artmaking and the Anthropocene–our current geologic age in which human activity has resulted in extreme climate change. We will look at how economic, political, social injustices play a critical part of this conversation. Practice-based assignments, a final project and oral presentations encourage students to conceptualize and produce their work on a local level while keeping in mind the globally impacting issue of climate change.
