Typography is an essential part of our everyday lives: in print, on screen, and in the built environment. This class explores the function and meaning of typography through an introduction to its history, theory, and practice in art and design contexts, including but not limited to graphic design, product design, illustration, architecture, and fine arts. Through short, conceptual exercises in collection, interpretation, type making and basic type setting, students explore the relationship of form and order to communicate explicit and implicit meaning.
