Reflection on the Paul Rand exhibition
Paul Rand was called the Piccaso of Design for a reason- He had the vision that nobody possessed . After the show I was very impressed by him, singled-handedly change the game of advertising. The thing I like about him the most is how he empathized branding is built on repetitive packaging but not choppy, unrelated commercials. Undoubtedly, he has set a perfect example for generations of designers.
The Morning Star Logo
Media: Printed material.
Text: Only ‘morning star’ in bold, elongated wordings.
Color: Black and red. Letters other than O were all in black- which created the color contrast and let the O stands out.
Lines: Other than the bolded words, Paul used the letter O as a semi-graphical word art, playfully showing only 3/4 of the letter. Which probably represented the rising sun (creating the relation with morning).
Organization/ Composition: Horizontally placed, used the bottom part of the letters as the ‘horizon’.
Size: Only filled up 1/4 of the paper size.
Analysis: This piece of design only used a plain font. The eye-catching part is on the letter O. Since it is the logo of a company, Paul tried to keep it neat. With only simple word art, he created something simple yet special.
