Bridge 1: reflection

– What was the most challenging aspect of this bridge project for you?

The most challenging aspect of this bridge was definitely trying to get used to vulnerability. When finding out that there was going to be a critique, I think I unconsciously put a lot of pressure on myself and tried to do a culmination of things that ended up just not hitting the mark that I wanted to. I also think that due to it being so open, I was torn between doing something I hadn’t done before like an art installation or a sculpture, and just sticking to what I know like photography and collaging. I didn’t want to try out something new and it come out bad for our very first project. But it ended up coming out bad anyway.

– Did you find anything surprising throughout the making / conceptualizing process?

I found out that I need to get better at executing my thoughts and articulating them better. I had a great concept and the direction I was going in planning wise was good, but the execution was off and I had one foot in it and one foot out, which made the project look half-assed.

– What were some things you will take away from the feedback you received in crit?

Some things that resonated with me from the crit are that placement is everything. If I do not take into account how the project is set up and how I want the audience to view it then they will be confused and so will I.

– What do you think was successful about your piece?

I think it was successful in the fact that the audience (for the most part) was able to grasp the concepts that I was trying to touch base on.

– What do you think was unsuccessful about your piece?

Unsuccessful things about the piece is poor execution, poor placement, and too many ideas bleeding out onto the work without a clear direction.

– Would you change anything about the piece?

Yes I would change a lot including the way the images were shot, the placement of it prior to the critique and the way I used collaging.
