Time Final: Flip Book Project

For my Time final, I created a flip book focused on the theme of changing light, color, and shadow over time in one place. I photographed myself in my bedroom every five minutes while the sun went down, using my ceiling light with an orange gel over it to cast all the photos in warm shades that vary from light pink with blue natural light to dark red and black light as time passes. Over a time period of fifty minutes, I captured ten photographs, which I edited in Photoshop to emphasize color changes and relationships. I interspersed these photos with pages listing the time at which the next photo was taken. I printed each page in the graphics lab, cut them to size (3 x 4 in.) and perfect bound them together with neutral PH glue. I printed a 3 x 8.2 in. cover, wrapped it around the pages, and also secured it with neutral PH glue. My final flip book is minimal, colorful, and concise, and creates an interactive experience for the viewer: as they flip through the pages, they control speed and duration of flipping, experiencing the book and passing of time on their own terms.
