In this project for Time, I took a photo of myself every hour for twelve hours during one day. I chose to make my photographs close-ups of different parts of my own body. The body parts correspond with my activities throughout the day, including showering, eating, walking to class, and taking off my makeup. Together, they demonstrate the way in which I am aware of my own body every day, in different contexts, on an hourly basis. I chose to convert the images to black and white because I thought it made them more unified and strong. I left a relatively large and even amount of space between the photos because I felt it organized and paced the narrative, and I added scattered text highlighting specific times as they corresponded to the photographs because the composition felt a bit bare, and also to clarify the time map aspect of this project. I made the text a bright orange-red because I liked the dramatic contrast between grayscale and bold color. My first composition included a title, “body images”, which I removed in my final version because it felt unnecessary. I then rearranged my time text, varying size and placement so that it felt random but balanced, and finished with a composition that I think is simple but clear enough to convey my message and nature of the project.
