In order to practice using the wood and metal shop machines, we created a wood necklace from scraps. We connected the wooden necklace pieces through using mechanical connectors. We then documented the piece in style shots.
Reflection
This assignment was more difficult than I had anticipated. Cutting relatively small blocks of wood on the machines required planning that I had not expected. I had to maneuver the wood in such a way that I was remaining safe, even though the pieces are small. In this sense, the assignment was a good introduction to the shop machines. I also enjoyed staining the wood with diluted acrylics and doing the knot work with the yarn, as I felt these details made the piece look finished.
