Reflection
I really enjoyed this workshop a lot. I found it useful as I am working with textiles for Project 2, but I also found it fun. First we learned how to tie a knot int the thread the cool way. I’ve always seen people do that and felt as if it were magic, but now I know how! We then learned the running stitch, basting stitch, and whip stitch.. I’ve done these before, but it was good practice. Then we learned the blanket stitch, which I found to be really fun and I think the result has a very nice aesthetic. From there, we learned the blind hem stitch and finally the catch stitch. The catch stitch was very simple to learn but I had difficulty making it look good, as each of my crosses were different sizes and angles. The blind hem stitch was my favorite because Professor Courtney Puckett gave us a cute analogy of making your needle “ride the subway and come up for air.” This made the complex stitch much simpler. I am excited to use stitching in my Project 2, as well as in future projects.
