Blockchain for Teens
5 in 5 | Major Studio 1 | MFADT
My 5 in 5 project involves explaining Blockchain to 5 different age groups, based on their level of understanding, and using the media they understand the most. Blockchain for teens is the second video from this 5 part series of explaining blockchain.
The target audience for this video (context) is teenagers, High School students, and children in the age group 10-20.
Put simply, blockchain is a way to do a trade. As the target audience for this video is teenagers, I have increased the level of technicality in terms of blockchain understanding. In this video, I have made a contrast to the existing trade mechanism, taking an example of Ebay, and used that to explain how Blockchain works. I have explained computer network, which forms the basis of the blockchain network (I have not talked about the cloud infrastructure, which would be out of the scope of this project).
Since teens have a better access to technology, I have given this project the shape of a Digital Simulation through the software, Processing. Children can play this and follow as they go from one step to the next.

The Process
This entire project was completed within 24 hours. Here is the process I followed:
- Select the topic: Blockchain
- Break the topic down in terms of the deliverables
- Research the key elements of the topic
- Brainstorm the simplified explanation for the teenagers
- Create a flowchart of the process to be coded in Processing
- Create sample screens for first phase code testing on Processing
- Design visuals for the screens in Processing
- Record the narrative for the screens
- Test the project for errors
- Screen record the Project and document everything

SCOPE
Children these days understand everything. But, for the sake of simplicity, I have drawn a line and have avoided the explaining topics like cloud networking and cryptocurrency.
The idea from conceptualization to finalization took a series of steps. Since this is the second part of my five-part series of blockchain explanation, here are some images of the initial bits of brainstorming I had done on this project, to give it this shape. Note that some of the images reflect the work done on other age groups since I had to divide what part of the topic I wanted to cover for the teens.
Note: Blockchain is a very vast concept, and the references I used for understanding and simplifying Blockchain are valid for all the parts of my project. The primary references I have used were the YouTube videos, TED talks, and Wired.com videos. I will share the links to the same (and the rest of the references) in the final part of this project.
Special thanks to Mohini Dutta (MS1 faculty) who really helped me understand the assignment objective and Archit Kaushik (MFADT Senior) who helped me with setting up the navigation in Processing.
