I AM DRUG | Story and Concept
It’s pitch dark. There is sand everywhere. I can’t see the sky. I seem to be enclosed inside a jelly-like substance. I can move but cannot find a way out. I’m trapped!
Wait. What’s happening? Everything around me seems to be shrinking. I see a red light at a distance. Looks like my world is tearing apart to reveal the outside universe.
I must get out of here to save myself. A strange watery liquid is rushing inside from the red light, submerging everything around me. I can see an aircraft revealing itself in the red light. Let me run towards it before I get submerged. I must go through the hole to exit this world.
***
I’m outside. Behind me, I can see my world collapsing – gradually shrinking and dissolving in the liquid. I am now in a bigger world, probably a different universe. I see blood flowing like a river inside pipes. Giant monster-like creatures, 100 times my size are rhythmically contracting and expanding.
***
What are those yellow blobs? Why are they eating the surface of those gigantic creatures? I must destroy them before they eat me as well. The aircraft can shoot blue lasers. Let me try to destroy the blobs using the lasers!
Great! It’s working. The blobs are shrinking with laser. Let me remove them completely.
***
Phew! I feel better now.
Oh no! I am being sucked inside the bloodstream. My body is dissolving itself in the liquid. I can’t breathe.

For my final project, I plan to create an interactive simulation of the mechanism of action of a medicine, from the lens of a drug inside a gelatin capsule. As the person consumes the capsule, gelatin disintegrates inside the stomach to reveal the drug.
Based on the above story, the drug would take a journey inside the body to identify the disease, destroy it, and then exit the body (die).
I plan to use storytelling to gamify the experience, giving the player a sense of control as they move through the body. I would use either the web or VR for the interaction.
I was inspired by the readings on video gaming experience by Robert Yang. The article made me think of the idea of submitting to the choice of the player. Creating an interaction to direct the player to reach at the end sounded very appealing to me. Through my final project, I want to explore that area and learn how players think when they play games. In the process, I want to create an educational experience by using the theme of a drug curing a disease.
For brainstorming, we had an in-class activity in which we tweaked our idea using randomly received domains. Under the domains of graphic design, Unity 3D game, and mobile app, and after discussion with my classmates Adam, Waverly, and Yuqi, I thought of this creative experience for my final concept. I have never made a game before, so I want to challenge myself by creating this interaction.
