Project Proposal
For my final project I want to explore the range that portraiture offers. More importantly, I want to focus on experimenting with my own interpretation of getting to know someone through the lens. I originally had the idea of creating a video where I have a “model” washing away paint, (to later reveal herself). I found a piece of music that I thought would fit nicely with this idea, and it slowly shifted my design of this video. The music has a fantastical, French feeling to it. I started imagining this project as a performance. I thought that involving a set-like design would add substance to this video. My classmates suggested that I pay attention to editing. I also had the idea of playing with reversing footage and playing with time. I will make sure to include this into my piece.
My biggest challenge has been to not get bored or rush into this project. I usually like to go for things right away with little planning and see how they turn out. Making prototypes has been very challenging. I’m not sure if each prototype is making the project better, or if my idea is floating away from me. Keeping my idea straight is what I have challenged myself to do. I need to research a lot of stages to finalize my illustration (set). For my project I plan to use acrylic, poster board, fabric, paints and foam board.
In terms of site, I would hypothetically place this in Times Square. This project is quite intimate and small scale. This is exactly why I would like to blow it up and be seen by a huge number of people. At first glance, the piece wouldn’t hold much meaning, but if you kept watching it, you would feel the need to keep watching it. Its message isn’t obvious, nor am I trying to convey a specific message. I want to incapsulate the curiosity and vulnerability to being behind the camera and on a screen.
