Dream Collage

    

 

I began my final dream collage by brainstorming possible ways to combine my drawing collection. I was immediately interested in shaping my project into a house-like structure. My first week’s observations had a lot to do with looking into other people’s New York lives.

I decided to create a theme based directly off of my door dream drawing. This set a color scheme for the rest of my work. 

My first thought was to have a much larger box. I began gluing pieces of paper onto it. I later realized it was not the scale I wanted to play with.

 

  I wanted to create a piece that would make you feel like a giant.

  I decided to use a cereal box as the frame. I adjusted my original idea of having doors on each side of the box to having door on the front and back.

Critique 

• Someone suggested that I had doors on each side of a cube.

Each door was cut out and painted. I used strong colors to contrast the softer colors within the dream drawings.

• Someone suggested I use strong colors for my drawings.

I originally colored the doors with pastels, but it was not strong enough against the pieces of paper.

 

 I created a bit of a mess. 🙂

 

These two pictures showcase my final project. The doors open to a dream drawing. Each drawing was based off of my original material. I rearranged some of the items within the dream drawings to create a stronger collage effect. The yellow door opens to an ocean scene. This transition was very much inspired by Alice and Wonderland. I decided to sketch (and incorporate) theobservational photos I had taken in week 1. I wanted to create a continuous theme throughout. I left the insides of the doors untouched to show the material I used. I wanted some of the original material to show through. 

 

 

Critique

• It was suggested that I create a more 3D effect by pushing back the artwork.
