Group Project: Sustainable Systems Final

After conducting research on city parks my group and I focused our final project on Riverbank State Park and it’s active sewage treatment facility; the assignment given required that we create a product or activity that engages participants while also educating them on a system.

Our concept: The jigsaw puzzle will be distributed by the River Bank State Park to local high schools to be used as an activity that aids the student’s understanding of the sewage system that runs underneath the park, therefore expanding their knowledge on the this system. The product also acts as a promotional material for the park due to the inclusion of the alterate puzzle on the reverse side that reveals the features of the park.

I am a Bahraini product designer based in New York City. I am currently pursuing a degree in product design at Parsons the New School of Design. With a focus on furniture and housewares, I am very hands on in my design process; often designing through the manufacturing process. I continue to challenge myself by taking on projects as an opportunity to explore materiality and processes. Rather than hiding imperfections in a piece, I bring them to the forefront of the concept to highlight the manufacturing process.
