Thoughts on Gentrification in Bushwick
This project came to be when I was thinking about how unaware much of our student body, at least the ones I’ve interacted with, have been about gentrification in New York. Every time I hear someone talk about Bushwick as just a ‘cool hipster neighborhood’ I want to scream. If you’re going to move into a neighborhood you should at least know what is happening in that neighborhood and gentrification has been a huge problem in Bushwick for years. There are mixed opinions on whether the gentrification of Bushwick is a good thing, a bad thing, or somewhere in between, but no matter where you stand on the effects of gentrification, it’s obvious that it is happening.
