Integrative Studio 2 – BRIDGE 3: Homage

A.  ABOUT THE WORK YOU ADMIRE

My chosen person is the English painter David Hockney, who was not only a painter, but created beautiful sketches of people around him, as well as a being a photographer and a stage designer. His paintings captivated me from the very moment I laid eyes on them, expressing his influence of the people around him, as well as areas such as balconies, swimming pools, gardens and more. He portrays people’s emotions very realistically, and yet turns a casual scene into something mesmerizing. Hockney isn’t afraid to use the bold essence of bright colours in his work, yet capture moments in time so effortlessly through the use of them, bringing out the hues and attracting the human eye. To me I truly admire his landscape paintings, which always seem to freshly come to life of and with all the different perspectives he paints, it makes you rethink about the way you view his work.

B.  YOUR FINAL PIECE

C.  YOUR INTENTION WITH YOUR PIECE

My intention is to paint a  landscape with the perspective similar to Hockney’s, yet portray a place that I would familiarize with, most definitely a place from home is what I’m aiming for. So I would include either Islamic architecture, palm trees and other greenery, and paint using the similar bright colours as David Hockney would. I also want to maybe incorporate 3D elements into the piece, yet I am still deciding, or exaggerate the canvas so the paintings seems to be spreading out. I want to make sure the colours seems similar, as well as the patterns he would paint and the perspectives he focused on in his pieces.

3. Feedback response

I agree on his choices of color being one of the most significant elements in his pieces, and hopefully I incorporate that as bestowed as I can into my piece. I also hope to incorporate the scene of my home into the piece, or at least a place or landscape that is familiar to me.
