Report:
- For my studio project, I created a wooden sculpture in the shape of a geometric figure with an engraved cut out of my mother’s name, “Jude”, in Arabic calligraphy.
- My concept is to show a visual exploration of the culture I grew up with back home
- A form of expression that is familiar to what I know and can be seen as a depiction of art in other people’s eyes, even if they cannot read/understand the Arabic calligraphy
- It gives me a way to convey a model of my language and my thoughts and enables me to be creative outside my origins
- I chose to do my mother’s name because it gives me a sense of comfort and reminds me of the importance of motherhood in my community
