Dear Data Postcards

The Bridge 2 for Integrative Studio was to create ‘Dear Data Postcards’ with a partner. I had to create one post card everyday by recording a particular habit through visual representation and symbols, and then mail them to my partner’s home.

Day 1.

My partner and I chose to keep track of the number of times we opened a particular application on our phone throughout the day. Every symbol represents every time I opened a particular application.

By creating this record, I found out just how much I use my phone in a day, and the excessive number of times I open WhatsApp and Mail.

Day 2.

For the second day, we kept track of all the money we spent or received on food, transport, grocery etc through cash, debit card, metro card or college card.

With this entry, I realised how much I spend more money in a day compared to the money I receive.

Day 3.

The third day was about the number of times we touched our hair in different ways. Every symbol represents every time I touched my hair.

Keeping a track of this habit was difficult, but I realised the need to reduce this nervous habit.

Day 4.

A day of keeping track of delicious desserts. We decided to record every time we thought of a desert, talked about it, saw someone eating it or ate it ourselves.

Recording this entry was simply too much fun, and rather increased my appetite for desserts.

Day 5.

For the last day of this project, we kept a track on the number of times we thought we were ‘tired’, heard someone say that, or said it ourselves.

With this, I realised how tired college can make us and the people around us.

It was a really interesting project to keep track of such mundane and ordinary activities and then represent them in a fun and creative format.
