Object Analyses- Character POV

For this assignment, I analysed objects within the show Gossip Girl, from the point of view of different characters.

Blair Waldorf: Headbands

I cannot believe this. I just saw Jenny Humphrey wearing the same headband that I’d worn a year ago. Everyone knows that you don’t wear the same headband again, especially not the same as mine! Headbands have a mood and they’ve always set the tone for who I am as a person. This feminine and chic headband creates a balance with my structured and sophisticated school outfit. Red is the color of fire and intensity but the color is juxtaposed with a feminine bow. The satin fabric gives it a luxurious feel. When I look at my headband, I see a crown. I wear it as a crown to tell the world that I am royalty, that I am Queen B. The headbands that my minions wear act as tiaras to emphasise my standing on the social ladder. The headband is a timeless accessory because it embodies tidiness and class. And better yet, I have a different style for every occasion and day. I think it portrays me as a leader but at the same time the femininity of it softens my dominating personality. Headbands have become a part of my life and story. It is a staple in my closet, and a signature of my personal style.

Blair Waldorf: Cell Phone

“From: Gossip Girl

Happy Birthday, B!”

That’s what the screen of my cell phone read. One text message, just one text which will change the entire course of my birthday. It is impossible to keep a secret anymore. If there’s even a hint of gossip, drama or scandal, its on Gossip Girl. It was once said that a person’s eyes are the windows to their soul. That was before people had cell phones. Every person at Constance Billard School has sent in a scandal to Gossip Girl. So have I. It would be impossible for me to conspire or orchestrate a scheme without Gossip Girl and my cell phone. And we all know how much I love a good scandal. Isn’t it the only way to be on top of the social ladder? My cell phone is filled with secrets of my own and others. It is essentially the most useful when it comes to protecting my friends and manipulating the situation. Technology is an important aspect in maintaining connections nowadays. If there’s one thing I would never leave without, it would be my cell phone. Who knows when the next Gossip Girl scandal would explode?

“You know you love me, xoxo Gossip Girl.”

Jenny Humphrey: Sewing Machine

This sewing machine was the start of it all. I remember the first garment I sewed with it. It has seen it all- my dream, my first garment, the time I gave up on my dream, my own clothing line. To some this simple machine may not seem like much, but for me it dictated the past, present, and future of my life. When I did not have the support of friends or family, I knew I always had the support of my trustee machine. Some judged me, but this just motivated me to be different and become the best I could in what I do. And you know what? Even though high school became a living hell, thanks to Gossip Girl I got the courage to move to London for university. This led to countless fashion shows and success. I think its an indication that true talent never completely goes to waste. If you put your mind to something you will definitely get it. We all have to go through a hard time before we make it big. I do not regret the bad times because they made me stronger. All thanks to some simple mechanics we call a sewing machine.
