This fall marks the inaugural year of our MFA Design + Technology at Parsons Paris. With the launch of the new program, students can look forward to #AMTrdv, a series of talks with invited international artists, which are also open to the public (stay tuned for dates here). The first major event is Art Hack Day, which will become a show in the Parsons Paris gallery for Paris Design Week, September 6-18th throughout Paris.
“Disnovate” is a collaboration between Art Hack Day, Parsons Paris and Accès(s) festival. During an intense 48 hour hackathon hosted in Parsons Paris (August 28-30), international artists, designers, hackers andgraduate students, will come together to share skills and ideas, and create a flash exhibit on the theme “Disnovate”.
“Disnovate” will also be part of Design Week 2014 which takes a fresh view on the theme of “sharing/partager”.
Disruptive innovation is widely heralded as the driving force of progress, influencing all walks of life. Its vocabulary has seeped into domains as disparate as politics, education, or art. Computer culture is not immune: Hackathons have turned into rallies for smarter, cheaper and faster consumption. What role does the whimsical and useless play in this society? Can we evaluate creation without resorting to conceptions of value? What worldview is implied by the language of disruption; what does it clarify and what does it obscure?
Exhibition dates: Aug 30 – Sept 13

WHAT IS ART HACK DAY?
Art Hack Day is an internet-based nonprofit dedicated to hackers whose medium is art and artists whose medium is tech. We bridge the gap between art, technology and entrepreneurship with grassroots hackathons & exhibitions that demonstrate the expressive potential of new technology and the power of radical collaboration in art. We believe in non-utilitarian beauty through technology and its ability to affect social change for public good.
