Seminar Writing:

Throughout Leonora’s life, she had never fitted in any group or form for her rebellion. The only place she belonged to was her art. Her concepts were ahead of her time and even ahead of the current generation. When she passed away, the world she lived in was also dispersed. However, her mind and ideas, all buried in her artworks, are waiting for the future generation to discover and reflect.

Process: I first started to draw the Mayan Calendar. When the calendar was half done I made the costumes and sculptures. On Sunday, I went to Elizabeth Street Garden to do the photoshoot but only got one photo because the garden closed early. Then I went to another park to film the video. Lastly, I edited both the video and the photo.

Idea: This project is to celebrate Leonora’s rebirth. It is not only for her art but also for herself. She has experienced many tough things in life and she has never felt she has fitted in any group or form. The celebration is to bring her back as an individual without suffer and constraints

Inspiration: Strange space and mysterious setting. A sense of rebellion and innovation.

Challenge: The garden was closed. I had to immediately come up with a solution. It was stressful. The calendar took me much longer time than I expected so I practiced my patience. The mental part was also draining. I wasn’t sure if I want to do the ritual because of my religion. In the end I realized that it doesn’t matter what my religion is. I need to accurately present the memorial for the artist and I don’t necessarily need to believe what she believes in.
