Reflection:

For station 1&2, I want people to notice how public art is used as a form of advertisement. It is a unique way to attract consumer’s attention. For station 3, I want people to reflect what does public art say about a particular area. People’s needs, habits and routines are vividly represented on the wall. It is an anonymous but bold way to vocalize it. For station 4& 5, I want to compare public art in the library with the graffiti on the wall. I want people to think: both as public art that people have easy access to, why is one guarded and the other free with no protection outside?

I want my tourists to understand the importance of public art in this area. These art are bold statements by local artists, vividly showing their life. The lower east side is a youthful area, so these public artworks can strongly resonate with many people. As a person who lives here, I am used to seeing them every day. It is fascinating for me to see other people’s reaction towards this artworks. What you would like her or him to appreciate, understand, or consider this place and your presence there?

Conclusion

It is easy to explain to visuals through photographs and videos. However, it was difficult to tell the atmosphere surrounded by these artworks while I am walking through every block. Night and day are also very different. Only when the tourists are walking in the area during happy hours in the evening, they will truly understand how public art adds a unique vibe to the neighbourhood.
