Q-Tip Experimentation

To begin this process, I wanted to explore the many forms a Q-Tip can take. I played with its original form, and also deconstructed and arranged it in many different ways to get a feel for the material.

For my first piece, I decided to cut the Q-Tips in half and glue them upright in different shapes. It does not look completely the way I wanted it to because it is on such a small scale. Working with such a small material was difficult because I kept running out.

For my second piece, I took inspiration from Tara Donovan’s playful work style. Instead of planning what I wanted to create ahead of time, I let the material do the work for me. I dropped them on the board and let them fall how they wanted. I then ran over the whole board with many sticks of hot glue to create a spider web feeling.
