Our group focused on the historic events in the original group of 19th century paintings, given by the professor. First of all, we decided to switch the characters in each image, keeping the background. Each member reinterpreted her own painting and made up a fake news story to go with it. The way we chose to present these images is as a newspaper. We thought that the newspaper would express these fake historical events effectively. There are three articles with drawings and an advertisement on the bottom, as well as some details borrowed from a New York Times project by the Yes Men. To give every member a job in this project, we divided the roles in advance. We used the plotter to make the document as close to a newspaper as possible.
The role I took in the group was drawing and writing. I changed the character from “The Raft of the Medusa” to Napoleon painting, maintaining the original background which is the raft drifting a middle of sea. In addition, Youjung and I made up the fake article for Lemong’s drawing which is combination of Princess Margaret and the Execution.
