Project Deconstruction Assignment

One of my first serious projects was the head piece. I decided to call it “The Knight and the Princess” because it can be worn in two different ways. If you only wear the upper metal part with pearls, it will give you a feminine look, as it might be compared with the image of the crown. However, if you add the lace part underneath it, then the metal part will look more like a protection, like the Knights were wearing in order to keep their heads from serious injuries.
In order to make the lace part (which I actually made first, because I am more found of sewing fabrics) I first searched for the inspiration and made a little mood board just for myself. I looked up some old historical images of warriors and knights and found that some helmets they were using can actually contain more than one layer. In addition to my research, I was fascinated by some head pieces from Alexander McQueen couture show, and decided to experiment and to combine fabrics and metal. For the upper metal part I made a research again, I was looking at diverse images of crowns, and decided to simplify “the crown” in my case, so it could look more minimalistic. I also used the concept of Fibonacci sequence, so I actually made few sketches of it before I started making sketches of the actual head piece. I have to admit the fact that it was much harder to make the metal part, it was complicated to keep each line in order, so in the middle of making it, some metal parts got tangled, and I had to start over again. This was also first time in my life when before making the actual thing, I make the paper version of it in order to make to sure that everything works out when the same model will be made of metal stripes. On my first paper model I realized that I made the measurements wrong, so it would not fit my head, therefore I remade it, checked again, and only after that went onto working with metal and pearls.
