The project I am going to revisit is the Long-life design 50-year Hoodie I did last semester in sustainable system. The design is supposed to last for 50 years to adapt the potential environmental change. At the same time, it needs to be a design that closely connect with one’s self that the designer will actually use it. I design this hoodie that can be worn backwards so that I can store stuffs in the hoodie at the front.
I got the inspiration when I was working on my laptop at home. Everyday I spend a large amount of time on laptop which often times requires me to work with both hands. I have a really bad habit that eating snacks while using laptop. This hoodie allows me to set snacks nearby my mouth so that I would drop a lot of crumbs all over the table top. Also, while people are looking at the laptop, most of us are in a wrong sitting pose that add a lot of pressure on our spine. The big hoodie at the front forces me to sit straight in order to not crash my snacks and also see the screen. In the fifty years, I will age so the stuff I put in the hoodie will change. In 20s-30s, it is snacks; in 40s-50s, it can be tools or memos related to my work; In 60s-70s, it can be emergency medicine or maybe mobile devices.
The issue I am going to research on is about people’s sleep. At first I thought it was a common issue among students. Students tend to sleep late either to study or maybe to play video games. And unfortunately, no matter how late they go to sleep, they will have to wake up early to attend school. Later, I find this problems among adults, too. Generally, adults have more work than students and more irresistible factors that make them sleep late. In the U.S.A, 40.6 million adults are sleeping six or fewer hours a day. The hazard of lack of sleep can be subtle that people usually don’t pay attention to. However, it can cause tragic accident that even kills people. Therefore, my first project will be a collection of lounge wear or pajama that is not exactly the same as normal pajama. Wearer may not be able to wear the garment to sleep, but the purpose is more to raise people’s attention on the importance of having sufficient sleep.
