Designer Statement
I am now majoring in fashion design because of my experience on learning drawing when I was little. I learned the word fashion design at that time. Then, drawing become the most frequent entertaining I did at school. Therefore, I always see fashion as a three-dimensional drawing. It allows me to extend my understanding of beauty from a plane to a space. The visual image is dynamic because it is displayed by living people.
Besides drawing, I havea great affection on movies and TV production. It was Disney movie Cinderella that planted a seed in my heart. The scene of mice and birds refashioning an old dress for Cinderella enlightened me for the first time. Later, a Japanese anime Card Captor Sakura became the second milestone on my way towards fashion. I was fascinated by the amazing costumes Tomoyo made for Sakura.
Not only the moving pictures, illustrations also influenced me a lot. One is Taiwanese illustrator Jimmy Liao, best known for his vagarious and meaningful story books. I was impressed by his composition each illustration and color use. The other illustrator I like is more active online. Sheis best at depicting the characters in TV series that resonated with many audience. The people in her illustration all look very tall but without face.Although she never draws eyes or nose, you can easily recognize the characters. The two both have good sense on drawing sophisticated backgrounds. Being inspired by them, my works all have a kind of romance that contain implicit emotions and aim to be visually pleasing. Because I value a lot on visual part, for most times I have an imagined image. When I start making, I will use the materials to achieve the image I had. Although the process of any art-making can be very painful, but I believe that the ultimate pursuing is happiness, so I work slowly but patiently.
