Bridge 2: Project Statement_February 2019

When looking through all the advertisements, this one in particular stood out to me, because I’ve always had an interest in bands and concert poster designs. I found the idea of redesigning this concert poster to be very exciting. When I researched the band, I found the red, white and black color scheme of the poster integral to their identity as a band- using it very often in album covers, merchandise, and advertising. Therefore, when redesigning the poster, I wanted to adhere to the red, white, and black color scheme throughout all 3, while experimenting with many other design elements.

For my first redesign, I took the original poster’s idea of using the band members’ portraits as a primary aspect of the design. I utilized this element by creating one wide poster, featuring portraits of all 3 members in black and white, backed by a strip of red through the center, on a black background. For the second, I began to veer a bit more away from the original design, this time trying to put the text information at the forefront, paired with a black and white concert photo. For the third design, I wanted to create a design that was much more experimental and abstract, and relied entirely on the text to convey the message of the advertisement. For this one I created multiple layers of each line of text, progressively fading out as you down.
