This piece’s subject is the micro culture of Hasidic Jews in Borough Park, Brooklyn. It relates to this subject because the object itself is a book and the culture is very centered around knowledge and learning. I cut shapes in it to represent the hidden complexity of the culture and how from the outside they seem very closed off, but inside their community they’re very social with each other.
