For me, fashion means expressing yourself through clothes in any way you want. It’s basically art through clothes. I love to experiment different things instead of following the trends. By inspiring this idea, I came up with some pieces that show what fashion means to me. Technology has a huge role in our lives today, especially the apps we use on our smartphones started to control our ways of thinking. We started following trends that’s been repeatedly posted on Instagram or think best of everything can be found on social media and we started to adopt the generalized rules. Each of these pieces represents fashion and delivers different messages of my rebellious feelings through generalized 21st Century fashion.
- I always had an interest to old style embroidery. With embroidery, clothing pieces look more special. So with this piece tried out different textures of embroidery.
- Fashion is basically a construction. You create a garment from scratch, nothing is already made. I created this pattern from toilet papers. First I ripped a piece of toilet paper then colored each piece to different colors. Then, by putting them together I created a pattern just like constructing a fabric to make a garment.
- Social media plays a huge role in our daily life. Today we post our images such as our ootd (outfit of the day) to social media to show off what we wear in a day. This has an impact in clothing trends. So in this piece, people wrote their instagram username on the mirror and took a raw picture of themselves to show their pure selves instead of manipulated pictures that would be appreciated by others.
- This piece is a changeable collage of top. I used an pose from a magazine and cut out the top of the model so when you change perspectives you will see a different design of a top.
