So far, this class has been engaging, challenging and exciting. This semester I feel like I am one step closer to what I want to do. These last few assignments gave me the chance to be creative as well as giving me the challenge as solving a problem.
First Assignment:
Our objective was to create three studies and one final study using three materials. they were planer, linear and a joining solution. We also were required to make study suspend and able to repose.
After presenting all of our our models we had to choose one piece to focus on. I chose the last piece of corse. I thought I would be able to get the best shadows from this study.
i began to drop the study next to the paper to create interesting and obscured patterns. I recorded each pattern that I discovered in blue ink and charcoal. After I found inspiration for my light shadow phase of the assignment. I began to think about what I wanted my study to convey. i wanted to focus on the fact that when a shadow castes it will appear in many forms. It will have a gradient of sharp shadows to soft blurred ones. The shape of the objects creating the shadow will be distorted and shaped into a form that us different to its original.
I started to explore this theory.
I began making various shapes in a small model to find the effect that I was trying to achieve. After much discussion with my pairs and professors I decided to keep the shape that I started with before seeing as though I gained the desired shadows that I wanted with the shape.
I wanted to create something would create similar shadows to what I had before, but at the same time retain the green and blue colors that I had used previously. I chose to create the vessel a second time from wood .
I originally had three walls that were covered , but I reduces the number of walls to two and made one wall out of transparent assatate and left the other open. I wanted there to be enough open space so that the lighting source would not be too intense. I later hung the blue and green shapes on wooden sticks through a slot, placing them in different levels throughout the vessel. I wanted to achieve the gradient of sharp and soft shadows. I then recorded a section of my vessel.Though this was a great learning experience I know that I can continue development on this assignment.
