What is Hospice care?

Sometimes you need a hand to hold

Keeping patients as pain free and comfortable as possible

It is an alternative to the traditional hospitals

The National Hospice and palliative care organization estimates that 1.4 million patients received services from hospice in 2008

                                                                                                38.5% of all people that died in the U.S were under the care of hospice care

 

Hospice Care Facilities 

Hospice facilities are most often times located within a hospital or a associated with a hospital, but more more and more hospice care facilities take on the “homie” approach. Creating spaces for their patients that resemble a more residential environment. Here are some examples of traditional and non traditional Hospice care Facilities :

Cultural Death Rituals:

Not Everyone approaches death in a traditional western way that most people may be familiar with, that consists of mourning, having a viewing, a funeral then a burial. It most certainly is different for people in New Orleans. They have what is referred to as a New Orleans Funeral parade. Giving the deceased a good send off celebrating and playing up beat music in the streets until they reach the burial site.

Others have come up with their own rituals. A very unique and increasingly popular ritual believe it or not are “living funerals” The deceased have requested to be displayed at their funerals in a natural position, so too look as though they are attending their own funeral.

Contemplative Practices:

contemplative practices can range between so many things. One can make up their own, anythinh that allows you to think and relax. Here are examples of some:
