The rotating room

For this project, I wanted to express a feeling of compressed memory. Due to my unique life experience, I have lived in many different types of houses since I was a child, so there will be many different memories intertwine together. Now I think that some houses have a familiar and strange feeling. I want to Express my compressed feeling by two dimensions works and three dimensions. Besides, I want to combine more elements, including time elements, space elements, and all kinds of cultures, such as Chinese culture and the lifestyle of New York. I feel delighted when I express these ideas because it evokes my childhood memories.

Discovery:

As a writer, I like to leave more time and space for the audience to think about themselves.

As a creator, I like to combine different elements together to create a visual impression to the audience.

As a storyteller, I find that my memory of the past becomes more and more blurred, but when these things are expressed in a picture, it will be exciting, and it will also emit new interesting stories.

As a researcher, I find that some materials are very difficult to collect because it happened a long time ago. If I want to explain these things very accurately, I need to collect photos of my bedroom before or search them from my memory.

I choose to depict these specific bedrooms because these houses have left a deep impression on me, for example, one of the ancient Chinese house designs is based on a famous book, “Dream of Red Mansions.” The “Dream of Red Mansions” is a book I read in elementary school. The storyline in the book really impressed me, and at the same time, I wanted to enter the picture depicted in the book.

For the investigation:

For Memory it can provide me with a lot of information to create by recalling the house I used to live in.

Observation: Observing the existing living environment can provide more specific information to create.

Primary and Secondary Research through Libraries + Archives: Through the description of the interior layout in “A Dream of Red Mansions,” I can better express the look of the old Chinese bedroom.

Museum visits: By visiting the museum, I learned about the decoration style and the primary color tone of the working-class apartment in New York from the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Last of all, in the future. I hope that I can bring warmth to people through simple painting and tell exciting stories while resonating with the audience.
