Geometry of Nature in Design

<MacBook Pro with Retina display 15-inch in 2013>

The first object I chose for observation is my MacBook. Since I am using it 24/7, I thought it would be interesting to actually take some time to measure each little section.

Measurement:

14.125″ (size of the screen width)/ 9.75″ (size of the screen height)= 1.45″  Square root of 2= 1.414

4.25″ (size of the key pad width)/ 3″ (size of the key pad height)= 1.42″ Square root of 2= 1.414

<ZigZag Chair>

The second object I chose is ZigZag Chair, designed by Gerrit T Rietveld in 1934. This simple shaped chair is intriguing. The fact that the designer used only four surfaces to create this interesting zig-zag style grabbed my attention.

Measurement:

29″ (size of the total height)/ 17″ (size of the total width)= 1.71″ Square root of 3= 1.73  Golden ratio= 1.618

26″ (size of the diagonal surface)/ 17″ (size of the total width)= 1.53″ Square root of 3= 1.73  Golden ratio= 1.618
